@zajawa99 : W tym kontekście czasownik modalny jest użyty jako 'logical assumption' dla którego w czasie teraźniejszym/ przyszłym są formy: must, can't, couldn't, a w czasie przeszłym: must have, can't have, couldn't have.
W tym zdaniu mówimy o sytuacji przeszłej, dlatego musimy użyć 'couldn't have been'.

Użylibyśmy 'could' (w sytuacji przeszłej) gdyby mowa była o umiejętnościach (ability; np. He could speak Japanese) lub przecząc w zakazie (prohibition; np. They couldn't wear jeans at work (they were not allowed to)).

hej "it couldn't have been my uncle you saw in town yesterday." nie powinno być it couldn't be ?? jest podany precyzyjny czas w tym zdaniu co w mojej opinii wyklucza czas present perfect.

:)

Thank you, ang.pl /

We're a bit late. The film might have already started. - moim zdaniem must have również pasuje, zależy jak bardzo jesteśmy pewni, jak stoimy przed salą kinową i słyszymy już dialogi to film bardziej MUST się zacząć niż MIGHT zacząć :P

We have to be up a? five o'clock. (at) :)
