Technically it doesn't, but since we dug a little deeper, I feel that rent and lease are not quite the same terms, especially that in my view the person asked about everyday practical English and in AmE the term lease is not commonly used for renting homes. I don't see any harm in more detailed explanation, it may come in handy for someone, and I didn't mean to argue or offend anyone. I apologize if someone took it that way.
