I am blood-drunker (I will not bite)
They are rather tall with characteristic skin which sparkle in the light. They were thought to be far more clever than people, and far more cruel than anything on this planet. When something weird occured they were chared with it- no wonder that they had to camouflage their true identity for ages. But today's vampires are completely different from their ancestors - safe from hunting, they can take off their masks without fears. Insted of being used as a symbol of death or evil, they are printed on posters for teenagers' rooms.
Vampire-mania began in USA four or five years ago. Only by bestselling book or film from Hollywood could they gain such a big fame they enjoy now. Of course they were not the inspiration for only one author or film director - today the number of people who had a vampire on first or background in their books, films or everything else is uncountable. However, there is only one book which was sold in millions copies worldwide and tell us a story of vampire- ,,Twilight", written by Stephanie Meyer. Her main characters - Bella and Edward are a couple from a little town in the USA. Bella has to move from her hometown (Phoenix) and has typical teenagers problems - she can't find her own, has no friends in the new town. Then she meets Edward, she fells in love with him, can't guess his feeling towards her for a some time ( Edward wants to change his timetable so to avoid her), learns shocking fact about him (of course he is a vampire, ,,good vampire", but still a blood-drunker), begins to go out with him... Sounds like a Brazilian soap opera? Boring? Oddly enough despite of banal plot and a bad critics, teacher, church and parents' opinion the book still has, million of young people in the whole world identify themselves with a shy girl and vampire. The story is read as the symbol of fight agaist discrimination , anti-semitism, church and as the approval of diversity, multiculturalism, liberal way of bringing up...
Not only do the writers follow the fashion. When the traditional and willingly used films characters like wizards, hags are paseé, vampires become more popular in the world of music and films. The fashion involves the titles of whole bands (just to mention New York's new discover - Vampire Weekend), having a bizzare mates in films who sooner ar later turn out to be vampires, and of course adaptation of books (,,Twilight").
So far we have gone through the Potter-mania, Pokemos-mania and hundrets of others fashion. The ,,Next big thing" among the new generation of ,,indie" people are vampires. You can be favor of such a fashion, approve it or not, but it is almost impossible to ignore it. Those who are sick of vampire may have difficult time seeing it on every posters and a huge part of adverts and films. If you are not fed up with them yet, you can try to become fond of blood-drunkers. You never know what will be next...
