A two step process is required to update the firmware in the HP Photosmart R607 camera. The first step is to copy the firmware files to a memory card inserted in your camera.

The second step is to update the firmware in the camera. Please refer to the Photosmart R607 User’s Manual for the location of the necessary camera controls.

IMPORTANT: This process will erase all of the images you have stored in the camera! Before proceeding unload all of the images from the camera.

Copy Firmware Files to the Memory Card.

1. Set the USB Configuration on the camera to Disk Drive. NOTE: if you are using a MAC, the camera should already be set to Disk Drive in the USB Configuration menu. If it is, you can skip to the Format the Memory Card section below.

· Turn the camera on.

· Press the OK button to bring up the Capture menu.

· Use the arrow keys to select Setup Menu.

· Use the arrow keys to select USB under the Setup Menu and press the OK button.

· Use the arrow keys to select Disk Drive and press the OK button.

· Use the arrow keys to select Exit and press the OK button.

· Turn the camera off. Insert a SD memory card into the camera.

2. Format the memory card.

· Turn the camera on.

· Press the Playback button to activate Playback.

· Press the OK button to bring up the Playback menu.

· Use the arrow keys to select Delete and press the OK button.

· Use the arrow keys to select Format Card and press the OK button.

· Select YES and press the OK button.

3. Connect the camera to your PC or Mac using the USB cable that came with your camera.

4. Close the HP Image Unload dialog box, if necessary.

5. The following firmware file is to be copied to the camera:

SwanPP4t.fwi

* PC: The camera can now be viewed as a "Removable Disk" drive using Windows Explorer. Copy the downloaded firmware file from the folder where they were uncompressed (step 2 above) to the camera by dragging and dropping them onto the "Removable Disk" drive. Make sure the file is copied to the root of the "Removable Disk" drive and not into any subfolders.
* Mac: The camera can now be viewed as a removable volume named "HP_607" on the Desktop. Copy the downloaded firmware file from the folder where they were uncompressed (step 2 above) to the camera by dragging them onto the removable volume. Make sure the file is copied to the root of the "HP_607" volume and not into any subfolders.

IMPORTANT: It may take several minutes for the firmware files to be copied from the computer to the camera, therefore, please wait several minutes before proceeding to the next step.

6. Camera removal from your PC or Mac:

* PC: Turn the camera off and disconnect the camera from the PC.
* Mac: Drag the volume named "HP_607" to the Trash. Turn the camera off and disconnect the camera from the Mac.

Update Firmware.

One of the following power methods will be used to update the firmware in the camera. Go to the section below that fits your power method.

NOTE: It is strongly recommended that you use the AC adapter that came with your camera during the updating process.



IMPORTANT: DO NOT press ANY buttons until during the firmware updating!

· If you are using the AC adapter:

· Hold the Shutter button down (which is located next to the Video button) while powering on the camera. The focus LED located in front of the camera next to the lens should be on for approximately ten seconds.

· After a short pause a message will come up stating the firmware is being updated and the red video LED will be on.

· This may take some time, however once the screen states "UPDATE COMPLETE: Please turn camera off and on (REBOOT)" and the green AF LED is on, turn the camera off.

· When you next use the camera, it will prompt you for a language setting. This is normal. Select the desired language and then press the OK button.

· The firmware update is finished.

· If you are using the battery:

· Insert a fully charged battery into the camera.

· Hold the Shutter button down (which is located next to the Video button) while powering on the camera. At this point the focus LED located in front of the camera next to the lens should be on for approximately ten seconds.

· After a short pause a message will come up stating the firmware is being updated and the red video LED will be on.

· The update may take some time to complete. However once the screen states "UPDATE COMPLETE: Please turn camera off and on (REBOOT)" and the green AF LED is on, turn the camera off.

· When you next turn on the camera, it will prompt you for a language setting. This is normal. Select the desired language and then press the OK button.

· The firmware update is finished.

How to check the firmware version

1. Turn the camera off.
2. While holding down the Flash button, turn the camera on. The "CAMERA SELF-DIAGNOSTICS" screen will appear. The firmware version should be listed as FIRMWARE: 2.01.11
3. Turn the camera off to clear the "CAMERA SELF-DIAGNOSTICS" screen.
4. If you have a Windows computer, it is recommended you return the USB Configuration setting on the camera to Digital Camera mode:

* Turn the camera on.
* Press the OK button to bring up the Capture menu.
* Use the arrow keys to select Setup Menu.
* Use the arrow keys to select USB under the Setup Menu and press the OK button.
* Use the arrow keys to select Digital Camera and press the OK button.
* Use the arrow keys to select Exit and press the OK button.
* Turn the camera off.



The firmware update process is now complete. You should format your memory card to remove the firmware files. This will free up space for more pictures and normal use. In addition, the files on your computer that were created during the download and extraction process may also be deleted.
