He's flying/He flies on Monday - difference in meaning

Temat przeniesiony do archwium.
Witam,

kontekst:
Facet ma kupiony bilet lotniczy na wylot w poniedzialek i pewnym jest, ze wylatuje. Podroz jest jednorazowa, zalozmy, ze chodzi o wakacje.

Normalnie powiedzialbym:

He's flying on Monday.

Czesto slysze jednak:
He flies on Monday.

Dlaczego uzywa sie Present Simple i jaka jest roznica w znaczeniu? Uprzejmie prosze o pomoc.
Cześć! :) ulala an interesting one! IMHO:

He's flying on Monday. - it can be his plans, intentions, or personal arrangements

Czesto slysze jednak:
He flies on Monday. - can be spoken by a professional such as a lawyer or bissinessman (sort of their argot?); it can also refer to a scheduled event;

Some could say: He shall fly on Monday.

1) is a natural way of conveying the meaning, anyway.

When is Monday? Tomorrow? In two days' time? This is an important thing I think. I use the simple present for an occurrence in the future, not for my plans for the future. I would never use the simple present to express a future appointment, and I don't recall hearing anyone do that - maybe some people do?

I'm going to the doctor's tomorrow.
I'll be going to the doctor's tomorrow.
I will be seeing a client at 5:00 tomorrow.
I'm going to be seeing a client at 5-o'-clock tomorrow.

and : I will be flying to Tampa in the morning. The plane leaves at 07:00.

I will see a client tomorrow at 5. That is odd to me.

Labtes, The Scots you work with speak like this, right?

I am awaitng what others have to say.

Cos tak,
Pres. simple - scheduled. His flight is sheduled for Monday. He flies on Monday.
Pres. cont - anticipated or planned. He is flying on Monday.
Both express the meaning of some arrangement/plan with the present simple stressing the predetermined nature of the action, progressive is anticipatory ( like fui said )

In 'He's flying on Monday' for example, it may well be that the flight was rescheduled for Monday
(because of delay or something), with the present simple such meaning would be unlikely.

They chance to speak proper English, sometimes. :)
