Czy would można stosować z czasownikami statycznymi? Mam takie zdanie i do tego są trzy odpowiedzi.
At university, Jason ....... a nice guy. He always told compliments to girls.

Według klucza a jest odpowiedzią poprawną. Czy nie jest tak, że would można użyć z czasownikami satycznymi, jeżeli chcemy podkreślić tymczasowość lub wyjątek. Podobnie jest np. She's being rude today. - Dziś jest trochę chamska, zachowuje się chamsko.

Trochę to rozumiem tak: na uniwersytecie sobie "pobybywał" miłym, a poza nim już np. nie.
Co myślicie na ten temat.

nie chodzi o krotkotrwale zachowanie, ale o powtarzalne zachowanie

"Rude" means"impolite, bad-mannered."

Compliments are usually paid, or given, but they can also be told.
People tell stories, instructions, lies, tales, news, facts, jokes, secrets, riddles, and… compliments. Compliments fit right in with the others.

Actually I’m not too crazy about that entire phrase. If try to google told compliments to girls, the only results you see, are from that particular exercise.

Why?

“Stative” should NOT mean “static” in any circumstances. “Static” should mean “statyczny/a/e” in any circumstances.

But it’s not the translation alone that is problematic (and your problem), but the consequence: the concept of STATE is entirely lost in “static(s).” Vendler, who came up with the classification, clearly meant STATES, not RESTS. His so-called dynamic verbs can be (and often are) aspectually shifted or even coerced into STATES which are far from being static (at REST.)
