Past Simple & Past Continuous

Czy “while” I “when” można używać zamiennie, bez żadnych konsekwencji?
Czy słowa te oznaczają to samo?
I gdzie powinny stać w zdaniu?
I czy stawia się przed nimi przecinek? :)

(według mojego podręcznika to jest zdanie poprawne) While we were studying for a test next day, our neighbours were having a party.
(a ja napisałam) We were studying for a test next day, while our neighbours were having a party. (I to jest źle, czy dobrze?)

(niby to jest poprawne) While they were sitting in the garden, someone broke into their house.
(a ja napisałam) They were sitting in the garden, when someone broke into their house

dziękuję
pozdrawiam :)
