Eric got lost

Eric always has a lot to think about. He sometimes goes for a long walk, and this helps him to think better.
Today he is in town, trying to find ways to save money. The sun is shining, and he can hear the birds singing their little bird songs.
Eric walks along many streets, both wide and narrow. He likes the narrow streets best, because there are not many cars. It was in a narrow street that Eric realised he was lost. He had no idea where he was.
"Hmm, I wonder how I got here. I'll have to ask for directions, but there's nobody here," he thought. Eric walked to the end of the street, where he saw a man at a bus stop. Eric walked to the bus stop, and asked for help.
"Excuse, me, can you tell me where I am, please?"
"No problem. You're here with me, at the bus stop."
"No, I want to know the name of this street. This is my first time in this part of town. I want to find a shop where I can buy cheap chocolate that tastes good. It's a nice day for a walk."
"Oh, sorry. This is Pinkerton Street."
"Can you tell me the way to the town centre, please?"
"Yes, of course. Walk about a hundred yards to the crossroads, in that direction. You'll see a big church on the left, opposite the old cinema."
"Opposite the old cinema, okay."
"Take a right there, and go straight ahead until you come to a small roundabout. Cross the road before the roundabout, and walk through the park. You can't miss it, it has big green gates. On the other side of the park, go through the gates and turn left."
"Are those gates green?"
"I can't remember, but they're big."
"Right."
"No, I said turn left when you go through the gates."
"Okay, left after the gates."
"About fifty yards from the park gates you'll come to a set of traffic lights. Turn left at the lights, then take the first street on the right, the second on the left, then walk straight ahead until you see me here at the bus stop."
"But I'll be back where I started."
"Yes, this bus stop is in the centre of town, but you said it a was a nice day for a walk. I just missed the bus, and the next one won't be here for an hour. See you soon, then."
"Okay, thanks. Do you want some chocolate? Perhaps I'll find a good shop."
"How kind of you. Yes, please, but I don't like that cheap chocolate they sell at Fotheringay's. Go to Robertson's instead, next to the bank on Miller Street. You'll pay a little more, but their chocolate is wonderful."
"Thanks. Bye then."
"Bye."
