Hi there!!!
I would like to ask you about something. I study English philology and I know that after finishing it I could find any job here in Poland. But my desire is to move out abroad, either to America or UK. And here I have the problem. Could I be an English teacher in a certain English-speaking country???. And finally if not in these countries then maybe in Asia or somewhere else. But I am mainly interested in English - speaking lands. Please answer me by leaps and bounds. Thanks in advance.

In English - you do not study English philology - you study or read English Language. What other teaching qualifications do you have? Experience?

He probably means ESL - English as a Second Language. Teaching English to immigrants.

Literature, too. Why not? With a master's degree in English Studies he could teach first years at a university or a community college.

Asia and "somewhere else" usually prefer native speakers of English although it is not impossible for a non-native speaker to secure a job there provided you have a near native command of English. Slight accent is ok. If you are a non-native speaker, it is easier if you hold a passport from an English-speaking country (they think you are almost a native speaker then).

I agree, but I think that Peter still needs to work a little bit on his English. There are plenty of jobs in Japan or China - but there they prefer native speakers.

monk20, nie masz racji. Definicja w tym slowniku, ktorego uzywasz, zapewne nie wyjasnia, ze 'by leaps and bounds' uzywa sie z czasownikami odnoszacymi sie do zmiany, np. 'improve/grow/develop by leaps and bounds'. Mozna sie tego dmyslec np. z definicji w Longmanie, moze nie we wszystkich slownikach.
'odpowiedź na pytanie' nie jest procesem tego rodzaju.
Widze zreszta, ze jestes tu nowy, bo inaczej wiedzialbys, ze akurat Terri zna sie na rzeczy. Jako native speaker.

I won't even bother answering a comment like that. I never pick on people, I offer what is termed 'constructive criticism' it is never directed at the person. Something which you obviously, you are very unfamilar with. Just for your information, I do not have any trouble finding young, attractive, intelligent men to spend my time with.

do slownika to akurat nie musze zagladac - uwierz mi, kiedy pisze, albo mowie cos w jez. ang. to sie znam na rzeczy. W jez. polskim, to robie jeszcze duzo bledow. Ale prosze nie uzywac idiomow jak nie wiecie kiedy one sa uzywane. Zly przyklad dla drugich.

Its such a shame that very little advice ends up being given on here. It all starts off well and then fizzles out when poeple nit-pick. I think most of us make mistakes, especially when writing these days. People dont proof read what they write on a forum like this usually. So, people like you Terri, if youve not got advice on the actual question, whats the point of pulling someone up for bad punctuation or a spelling mistake?

The actual question was about Peter's chances of becoming a teacher of English abroad. Terri's 'nit-picking' was very much to the point. You can't be a teacher if you speak or write sloppily. I guess that's clear.

Terri you try to sugar coat it by calling your A-hole way of acting 'contructive bull crap" but where I come from we call people like you a Queen cunt that can't smell her own duty. I think you are the one that is unfamiliar with what the word A hole means. You think you are above everyone because you are a teacher in a little town that nobody knows of Poland. If you are so inteligent as you may think you are, my question is, Is that all you became a teacher ? Is that where your inteligence took you ? Getting paid 15 or 17 zl per hour ? I would've expected something more from somebody so inteligent and you think you are walking on water . I own a company here in PL Warsaw and I need someone to clean the toilets, Want the job ? Terri. You know what they say Terri Hilton, little things make little people feel big and you being a teacher did the job.

For your information, I do not live in Poland nor am I a teacher in Poland. Personal attacks on people are just typical of the style of you and your kin and evidently (if further evidence was needed) show the low level of intelligence that you possess. End of conversation.

I was just reading up on the whole issue here, and Peter if you're not willing to take some critism then you shouldn't ask for advice, because not all advice will be sweet and pretty...plus on top of that, many native speaking english teachers with high education in anglo-saxon countries have trouble getting jobs as english teachers, so realistically speaking do you think you stand a chance against them, without any real experience of teaching...
