hi, there!
winter is coming and there is much more time for reading. what books do you recomend to a person who hates s.f. and dan brown novels, doesn't like coelho and doesn't feel like reading sex in the city? I've gone throug some john irving and alice walker but I'm willing to find some other interesting authors that I have no idea about.
thanks!

you might, instead of telling us what you don't like, actually tell us what you do like - it would be much easier to come up with some kind of advice.

If you want to read some great english literature i would recommend something by Hemingway or Orwell. If you want to stretch yourself then try to read Hunter S Thompson, Himes,Kerouac, Burroughs and Selby Jnr though i admit they are not to everyone's tastes.
Easy reads would be something by Harlen Cobern, who seems to popping up in all the
bookstores of Warsaw, they are whodunnits mainly.
I borrowed "Harry Potter" from the library, but up to now I've leafed thru the book and, unfortunately, did put it down. I'd promised myself to sellte down to reading it, since it's really seemed to be quite interesting. And you don't have to think about vocabulary to much, as "Harry Potter" belongs to a group of easy-to-read books :)

ok, right. I like some classic stuff like proust, nabokov or mann but I can't imagine reading it in English. for such books I am only satisfied when I read them in Polish. I guess I haven't developed the taste for English-language literature yet and this is because I don't know good authors. if you could recommend anything that is not too commercial but still not too "heavy" - I would be grateful. I have read some books by alice walker, tony parsons or wendy holden but after two or three I felt tired and bored by the monotonous style. one thing I liked was victoria glendennind's 'electricity' - interesting plot mixed with a beautiful, metaphorical language. anyway, if you know something nice and not necessarily from the list of the latest bestsellers - would be fine.
and thanks for your answers!

thanks a lot. and by the way, I guess I wrote you an email.

hi ben, unfortunatelly I am not really that good with computers and I wrote a message (twice! by accident) that is at the end of the page. sorry for being messy but I am a technophobia victim and sometimes go crazy with computers ;)
big thanks to all of you!
I will look for some of the recommended books as soon as I have my renovation work done. I am having my flat "renovated" a bit (if it is possible to renovate something that old) and I eat, sleep and dress up in the mist of dust, which is NOT exciting at all. not to mention the two workers who smoke and curse all the day. yeah!

thanks!
