In my research paper I will focus on jargon and analyze it from a scientific point of view and employ both pragmatic approach and corpus linguistics. I am going to explain it on the example of kitesurfing related jargon. I have chosen the jargon that I know and use in practice. I believe that it would be difficult to analyze some jargon that is foreign to me.
I will start the paper providing overall definition of jargon not considering kitesurfing yet. I want the definition to be as neutral and objective as possible and provide linguistic approach. As there can be a few approaches I am going to list and compare them. Linguistic approaches are often described in a very complex way so I am going to make them brief and paraphrase them rather than quote. Therefore I need decent and reliable books about linguistics theory. Dictionary definitions would be to brief and in this case there is an need for more complex study, based on linguistic oriented publications. Jargon can be easily mistaken with a slang, I will provide the definition of slang, pointing out the differences between a slang and a jargon and compare those terms.
When I explain the terms jargon and slang I will provide some examples of kitesurfing terminology. I expect them to be new and unknown or even suprising to a reader I will provide brief definitions to those words. As kitesurfing is young and not really popular sport there is no official paper nor electronic-form dictionary publishedt that containin kitesurfing related vocabulary. Terminology and definitions can be easily found in free online glossaries, made for kite-rookies by professional kiters or instructors. Online forums can be a good source as well as it contain live language used by people. Those forums can be useful when analyzing pragmatic approach to jargon. I consider those WebPages as my corpus and I believe that applying corpus linguistic is the only way to grasp the topic as there is lack of books. I will analyze the terminology from a linguistic point of view, pointing out all morphological processes that occur. There are acronyms, blending and various processes involved when creating kitesurfing related vocabulary. Some of them are borrowed from sea speech but here is plenty of neologisms which I would like to discuss, analyze their origin and processes employed. All of the processes will be briefly defined by choice of quotations form a book.
In the end I will analyze the kite jargon according to pragmatic approach and try to explain why people have created it and whether it is rather a need for effective communication or just their laziness when using a language.

As kitesurfing is very young sport discipline there are few books about it existing and those are not available in libraries. Therefore I am going to use the Internet as my basic source for data collection. Dr Szymanski on linguistic conference claimed that we should be extremely careful when using Web as a corpus for language study. Actually when writing a diploma paper one should always verify information in a book as information found on the Internet are often not reliable but I am afraid that the Internet will be my main source for data collection. One thing that I can do however is at least to compare information found on different websites to check if they mach.
I will consider my work successful if I manage to present clearly the concept of jargon on the example of kitesurfing related terminology. The task is to collocate scientific linguistic approaches with examples found in the corpora to make it more comprehensible to a reader. I do not expect a reader to learn the vocabulary examples that I will provide as they serve only to illustrate word-formation processes and linguistic approaches.
