Sport events provided attraction for people from antiquity. The first olympic games were organized many years before Christ in acient Greece.
Over the last few decades sport events become more commercial. It's very good symptom because more and more people begins practise sports and this is particularly good for the health. Moreover sport events unite people. Commercialization of sport events is advantage also for financial reasons, because it attract many sponsors. It's a great opportunity especially for the host contries. Television broadcasts to the whole world are the best advertisement for that country. In addition tourist who co to the event spend a lot of money in restaurants, hotels and shops.
Last year my country organized a huge event - Euro 2012. It was very beneficial. We get lot of money from UEFA for prepare. In Poland arose many wonderful stadiums, hunreds of kilometers of highways and many other structures. Moreover tourist from around the world could get to know out culture and see a wondeful country. Many of them probably come back to Poland in the future.
Unfortunately sport events have a few disadvatages. Most of all is the terrorism. Sport events bring together in one place many people
and it provides an opportunity for terrorist organizations to attack with a large number of victims. An example is attack during the marathon in Boston in last few days. Another threat is hooliganism.
Sports events are becoming more comercial and i my opinion this is good way. It can find both advantages and disadvantages however, the advantages seem overweight.
