their zawsze bedzie wystepowalo wraz z jakims rzeczownikiem; theirs wystepuje bez rzeczownika:

These are their dresses.
These dresses are theirs.

Our dresses are blue.
Their dresses are red.
Our dresses are blue; theirs are red. (theirs = their dresses)
