Sometimes we have occasion to see a film that breaks every rule. And it becomes a part of general culture. For me Forrest Gump is such a film.
Forrest Gump is a Robert Zemeckis film based on the novel of the same name by Winston Groom. It tells the story of a man with an IQ of 75 and his journey through life and innocent reflections on what living is all about. His great personality and love to his mother help him to have an unbelievable life, filled with memories. And as the film begins, Forrest, sitting on his bench with a box of chocolates, tells strangers the story of his life. He tells about friends, mom and adventures with unusual people. He meets everyone from Elvis to John Lennon, from Kennedy to Nixon. Star quarterback in college and world champion of Ping-Pong some years later, he even finds the time to go fight for his country in Vietnam. Perfect example of the American Dream- isn’t it?
Film has a lot of advantages; from great cast to technical and musican perfection. Tom Hanks is absolutely perfectly cast in this role. I cannot imagine any other actor that would have done justice to this character. He has the child-like sense of wonder and joy no matter what life brings to Forrest. Thanks to him, Forrest is so real, so similar to people like you and me. Music is very well- fitting, it makes every scene more dramatical or funny, so spectator feels hapiness when Forrest is happy, cries with him in worse moments. They hope that Forrest won’t give up and say; come on, run Forrest, run...
It’s not easy to describe what makes this film so special, maybe it’s the main character, his magic story, or an effect of realistic costumes and dialoges. But one thing is sure- there should be more movies, more stories like Forrest Gump.
