Nowadays CCTV cameras are nearly everywhere. We are watched all the time. Is it good or bad? I do not know. But I think surveillance is important for us to feel safe. On the other hand is steals our privacy.
Firstly, I would like to focus on the main purpose why the CCTV cameras are installed in public places. This cameras deters people form committing crime. For instance people who know they are watched will not risk their freedom. Also they will behave according to common rules.
The point is that this kind of activity could make everybody feel guilty. In some shops items have RFID tags which sends a message if only you pick up one these items. The camera treats us as a potential criminal.
However more surveillance means police can catch more criminals. Cameras watch all of us so when somebody is stealing something police can establish his identity and catch him.
Unfortunately the police might misuse the information. They can watching or eavesdrop us for their own aims. In my opinion it is not good when someone is listening our conversations and laughs at us.
All things considered, although there are some disadvantages to surveillance, I believe it is a very important way to fight with crime. But also is worth to say that even the best camera can not replace people’s eyes.
