On the 31st day of February last year, in Centennial Hall in Wroclaw, played the best tribute band ever – Australian Pink Floyd. Their cover of Pink Floyd’s music was and is great. In London, in Daily Mail was written that “They play better Pink Floyd than Pink Floyd”. Of course, this is an incompatible matter, but there’s no denying – they are wonderful!
In the big hall filled with thousands of people, without any visible technical difficulties they started with the one of Pink Floyd’s biggest hits, “Comfortably Numb”. Everyone was listening quietly and enjoying the beauty of the song. The melody and the words were affecting on the audience so much, that the fantastic atmosphere of concentration and respect was felt in the air with each breath. The big part was played by video clips. They were showed on a big screen above the scene. Original, inclining to think about life, a little creepy clips were influencing on the atmosphere too.
Next songs from the highly acclaimed “The Wall” album were performed magnificently. It was obvious that Aussie Floyds were giving the audience 100%. Each song was valued by deafening applause. Some people even wanted to go in front of a scene to dance and sing with the band. Unfortunately, the security didn’t let them do it. This was the bad feature of the concert. Fortunately, it was the only bad feature. In one moment, the amazing lights were turned on. It was a beautiful sight – lights from light yellow, by harsh green to dark blue were ‘roaming’ through the audience.
The atmosphere changed completely, when the band played first notes of the legendary “Another Brick in the Wall” song. Everyone started screaming and clapping hands. Even sitting on chairs, the audience was moving and singing with the band. The singers’ voices were great and they didn’t really differ from the original. I’d say they were even better.
The big surprise was a performance of a polish singer. In the “The Great Gig In The Sky”, Aleksandra Bienkowska sang solo for some minutes. It was fully professional and stunning. The next surprising and distinctive thing was a huge balloon, representing a scary elephant. It was a kind of shock for the audience, but it was marvelous. I say, a big plus for the atmosphere!
The final track was poignant. Everyone sang “Wish You Were Here” with the band. Summing up, this concert was wonderful. The Australian Pink Floyd band gave a masterful performance and I think everyone can’t wait for their next visit in Poland.
