First, NH4HCO3 and ZnSO4·7H2O were dissolved in deionized water. The dispersed feed was pressed through the membrane into the microchannel to mix with the continuous feed coming from the continuous feed inlet. The two solutions were mixed in the microchannel, causing a supersaturation of zinc hydroxy carbonate and generating the crystal product. Following this process, the by-product (NH4)2SO4 was removed by washing the powder with distilled water under room temperature (298 K) until no white precipitate was generated when testing the washing water with 6% BaCl2 solution; then, the precursor was washed with ethanol three times. The washed powders were dried at 100 °C overnight and calcined. Overall experimental procedures are summarized in Fig. 2. The mechanisms involved in this process have been well understood, as demonstrated in the following schemes [29]. All precipitation experiments were carried out at room temperature.
