All Friends Here (Sami Swoi) directed by Sylwester Chęciński is a one of the most popular and funniest polish comedies. It was made in 1967 but it’s still quite current and cult. Main roles are played by famous polish actors: Władysław Hańcza as Kargul and Wacław Kowalski as Pawlak.
The movie begins with the history of Pawlak's and Kargul's families and it is set just after World War Two when the families have moved from their poor little village in the eastern borderlands of Poland to the western regained territories. There they settle as neighbors, only to carry on the longstanding dispute they had practically always. Despute between them had begun 40 years earlier, before war, when Kargul's cow got into Pawlak's field. Both families can live in peace and work together in moments of war danger, but these peace moments are not so long. There is always some reason to spark a „private war” again. It stay like that until their children grew up and fell in love with each other without parents permission. From this moment Kargul and Pawlak are connected by family chains.
This movie has an unique climate and, in my opinion, every Pole feel some fondness for it. In fact acting is absolutely amazing and natural. Maybe music is not so delightful but...who cares. Music in comedies isn’t the most important aspect. Funny dialogues, humorous situations and participation of famous actors made the film one of the favourites comedies of mine.
On the whole I would definately recommend this as an entertaining film for those who like wants to laugh 'till tears and have a good time with polish classic film.
