The theme of death was especially popular in Middle Ages and since that time it has been still existing in art. However people are afraid of death and always want to extend length of their life. They think about death only in physical side as a cessation of vital functions.
Aldous from “Elsewhere” consider death also as a state of mind. I agree with him, because everyone can interpret different situation in various ways as a benefit or as a loss. Moreover Hamlet from Shakespeare’s drama has similar opinion, which he express in popular quote “To be, or not to be: that is the question”. It also says that people can spend their life as zombie when they avoid problems and passively wait till the solution will come alone. To be mentally alive means having an influence on your life and be enough brave to oppose adversities.
