A direct object answers the question of who(m) or what.
An indirect object answers the question of to whom, for whom, or for what.

Not really. I know what direct and indirect object is. My question is
Are there any eules when we use "to" or "for"?
Oh, I get it now. I am not sure if there are specific rules. You just have to remember which preposition goes with which verb. Maybe this will help: https://www.usingenglish.com/forum/threads/4912-quot-to-quot-or-quot-for-quot
