Żeby się nazywalo

Jakiego zwrotu używacie do wyrażenia czegoś takiego " zrobili to tylko po to żeby się nazywało że zrobili" czyli w sensie żeby im nikt nie zarzucił że nie zrobili ale zrobili to byle jak.
Jedyne co mi przychodzi do głowy to "they did it pro forma, so nobody can hold it against them/ nobody can say that they didn't do it"
Any ideas?

They gave it a perfunctory/cursory examination, smile, review, greeting…in a perfunctory/cursory manner…
It was a half-hearted effort, attempt, performance…
They did a slapdash job, gave it a slapdash fix.
Did they try to palm off the job on me/someone else?
