Proszę o pomoc, bo mi się trochę poplątało.
Mówi się np.: I have been to Budapest.
Ale czy w past simple też używamy "to"?
Czy można powiedzieć: I was to Budapest last year?

Mozna powiedziec I have been to Buda...

można powiedzieć I have been to England / z in stosujemy gdy mamy na myśli konkretne miejsce w Angli i wtedy musisz sprecyzować e.g I've been in England nerby Heathrow Airport.
jak równiez I was in England / w tym przypadku nie musisz (chyba?) precyzować
mówi się tak jak po polski /byłem w Anglii/ I was in England last month.

I have been in Budapest for 10 years - to oznaczałoby że ten który mówi wciąż jest w tym Budapeszcie, "have been" w sensie "have lived", i że ten mówca najprawdopodobnie znajduje się dalej w Budapeszcie. Kiedy powiesz:
I have been to Budapest - oznacza to że byłeś tam (masz takie doświadczenie życiowe) i że najpprawdopodobniej wróciłeś z tamtąd i teraz jesteś gdzie indziej,

Let's make it clear:
I have been to Budapest. (I am not there now, so you can't use 'IN' in this case)
I have been in Budapest. (I'm still there, this time you can't use 'TO')
I was in Budapest. (I am not there now, I was there some time ago - you couldn't use 'TO' in this sentence - the preposition 'TO' is used with verbs of movement, but you can say:
I went TO Budapest. (NOT 'IN' in this case - the verb 'GO' is a verb of movement)

Are you sure we can say that? Wouldn't you just say "I am in Budapest"?

Unless you want to emphasize how long you've been in Budapest, then you could say "I have been in Budapest for a week now / since last week".

A reply to eva: of course you should use something like 'for...' or 'since...'. I just wanted to draw attention to the possible uses of the prepositions 'to/in'.

Prawdopodobnie powiedzialbyś "I went to the theatre/cinema". Np. gdy ktoś pyta co robileś dziś/wczoraj/w zeszlym tygodniu itp.

Chyba że mówisz dokladnie w jakim teatrze byleś (obojętnie kiedy), gdy opowiadasz komuś o teatrach, np.
I have been to "that" theatre.

Także: I haven't been to the theatre/cinema for ages.
Dawno nie bylem w teatrze/kinie.

Jeśli użyjesz "gone" to znaczy, że pojechala/poszla i jeszcze nie wrocila.

She has gone to Budapest. Pojechala do Budapesztu (i dalej tam jest).
She's gone to the theatre.
