Kiedy nie używać \'the\' ?

Mam w ćwiczeniach do angielskiego zdanie :
Joan and her sister are hurring to work now.
Czemu nie \'to the work\' ?

Kolejne takie to:
They don\'t lke vegetable soup.
Czemu nie np. \'a vegetable soup\' ?

Kiedy nie używa się the/a an wogóle ? Jak to z tym jest wogóle ...

z tego co mi wiadomo, the lub a/an używa się przed rzeczownikami.. mam tu regułkę dot. użycia \"the\":
we use the:
-to talk about sth specific, sth we have mentioned before or which is already known.
-with nouns which are unique
-with the names of rivers, seas, oceans, etc.
-with the names of countries when they include words such as state, kingdom, republic, etc.
-with the names of musical instruments, dances, museums, hotels,theatres, newspapers
- with nationalities (the French) and names of families (the Browns)
- with historical periods/ events
-with the words morning, evening, station, city, village, etc.
-with adjectives used as nouns to refer to a grup of people e.g. the poor, the blind.
-with only, last, first used as adjectives and with the superlative degree of adjectives/ adverbs
-with titles when the name of the person is not mentioned (the Prince, but: Prince Charles)

to teraz regułka, kiedy NIE używamy \"the\":
We do not use the with:
-uncountable and plural countable nouns when we talk about sth in general
(Koalas live in Australia)
-proper nouns
-names of countries, cities, streets, parks, bridges, contonetns, stations, lakes, etc.
-two - word names when the first is the name of a person or place (Heathrow Airport)
-names of meals, sports, games, months, celebrations, colours, drinks and languages when they are not fallowed by the word language
-with the words school, college, church, bed, court, hospital, prison, university, home, etc.when we refer to the purpose for which they exist.
- the words this/that/these/those
-possessive adjectives or the possesive case
-means of transport (by bus/train/tec.)

tu kończy się regułka o NIE używaniu \"the\"...
myślę, że to też się przyda... a na odpowiedzi na reszte pytań zaczekaj na doświadczonych anglistów... :)

Wydaje mi się ,że o to właśnie mi chodziło.
