My favourite band is "organic hip-hop jazz" band - The Roots who have also been known as The Legendary Roots Crew, The Fifth Dynasty, The Square Roots and The Foundation. American group was founded by Ahmir Thompson (Questlove) and Tariq Trotter (Black Thought) in 1987.
The current members of The Roots are Black Thought (MC), Questlove (drums), Hub (bass), Kamal (keyboard), Knuckles (percussion), and Captain Kirk (guitar). Black Thought is the leader of the group and he also writes the songs. The Roots are playing jazz and hip hop with live instrumentation and R&B acts.
Their first hit album (demo) in 1993 was called Organix but The Roots' first album for DGC label was called Do You Want More?!!!??! and was produced without any samples or previously recorded material. It just reached gold staus in 2005, with sales of 501,000 copies.
Their latest album, Game Theory, has some really good tracks on it. My favourite is "Don't Feel Right"
The Roots are scheduled to release their greatest hits set.
