jeżeli ktoś już o tym pisał to przepraszam, że się powtarzam ;)

chciałabym się dowiedzieć jak to właściwie jest z narracją w języku angielskim, bo niestety ciągle miewam z tym problemy. jestem właśnie w trakcie pisania eseju na temat poezji staroangielskiej, i zastanawiam się czy mając np zdanie

"Wife of Bath's Tale" jest osadzona w czasach Króla Artura, kiedy to wymagano od rycerzy życia w zgodności z Kodeksem Rycerskim

powinno być "Wife of Bath's Tale" is set, czy was set?

i generalnie, jeżeli coś było kiedyś (w sensie np. w czasach tego króla Artura) to powinnam zawsze w czasach przeszłych, tak?

and one more question ;) jeśli opisuję fabułę tej nieszczęsnej "Wife of Bath's Tale" to wtedy mieszanka Present Simple and Present Progressive?

Po polsku napisałaś "jest osadzona"; to dlaczego po angielsku chciałabyś "was set"?

bo trochę głupio mi brzmi "the story is set in King Arthur's times, when knights were still supposed to live in tune with Chivalric code"

...in tune with Chivalric code?
...in accordance with the chivalric code (of conduct, behavior...)

Try both. Past tense is less visible and easily disappears into the background. Present tense gives your writing a faster pace but is obtrusive.
