Career of students during their learning time

INTRODUCTION

The tough situation on a job market is a widely discussed topic in the contemporary world. There are lots of reports concerning students taking up a job before graduating from their academies. However, none of them answer the question about the reasons for this phenomenon. At the request of the Career Office of the Jagiellonian University I have conducted a survey among 43 students of the third and fourth years of their faculties and on the basis of it I have made a report concerning students applying for a job. It intends to show the main motivations of such decisions, salaries and appropriateness of a current career to the made courses as well.

DISCUSSION

Reasons for taking up a job:
Livelihood- 16%
pocket money- 19,6%
Gaining an experience- 43,6%
courses- 1,1%
saving- 6,9%
holidays- 11,2%
others- 1,6%

According to the results of my survey, students are mainly supported by their parents, whereas money earned by them are intended to be spent on their current needs such as cosmetics, clothes, entertainment etc. The significant percent of the polled is a sign that students compete with each other on the market field in order to gain the essential experience bearing interest in the future. It is possible that parents are not willing or are not able to provide them anything more than the basic goods: flats and rents, and hence the relatively high percent of people working in order to subsist. The fact is, however, that students do not work only for a profit in the form of money, but also to obtain references that give them the advantage when applying for a position which would be better-paid or compatible with a profession. They are fully aware of a competition on the labour market and, if they want or not, they take part in this ‘race’ before ending their education. It is very common for them to take the second faculty, although they realise that it reduces their leisure time to the minimum.

Compatibility of a job with a faculty:
1 (lack of compatibility)- 43,9%
2- 19,6%
3- 15%
4- 15,9%
5 (compatibility)- 5,6%

Curiously, working during the education, students do not use the abilities gained during classes. The reason for it is not surprising when looking at the current economic situation—43% of the surveyors are not employed in their field. Employers put strong requirements when choosing an appropriate worker and to their minds people who have not graduated from the universities have neither sufficient skills and knowledge nor enough time as they have to participate in lectures and lessons. It was found that students suffer a defeat when competing with a bit older and more experienced workers. Almost the half of the managers expect from the candidates to have a specialised knowledge and so called ‘soft skills’-- capacity for working in a group, resourcefulness, engagement, activity, being stress-resistant and showing initiative. So there is nothing more for them but to earn their living in the other way—in restaurants, cinemas, bars etc.

Salary paid to the students:
less than 1000 zloty- 57%
1[tel]zloty- 30%
more than 2000 zloty- 9%

According to the estimates, the average salary of students amounts to 1100 zloty. The majority of them earns less than 2000 zloty. What is really terrifying, 57% of young workers do not obtain more than 1000 zloty. As might have been expected, the largest amount of money is earned by the ones who take up the job that is compatible with the faculty at the university. Apart from this, the common known truth is that the most viable professions are the technical or economic ones rather than humanistic ones. And there is no point in showing the astonishment hearing that students of IT have the biggest expectations from the future job. On the contrary, students of the journalism and the pedagogy are fully satisfied with the salary which, on the words of one of the pulled, would on no condition attract e.g. someone studying medicine.

CONCLUSION
On the whole, students compete with each other continuously. Undoubtedly their main aim is to provide themselves a satisfying and well prosperous job in the future. One of the ways to accomplish it is to gain first experiences when studying. It gives them an advantage in comparison with the ones who do not manage to reconcile a faculty with a job and therefore do not come up to the expectations of employers. One the other hand, an effort of young people turns out very often to be fruitless -- they do not acquire practical skills, do not have a possibility to devote themselves to the studies and, finally, their pay do not allow them to subsist in the contemporary society. It happens that someone wins and his career proceeds successfully. Nevertheless, students nowadays are in an extremely difficult situation as managers require from students, who have never worked before, to be experienced in their field and tend to not engage the ones with an empty CV.

aha, treść zaznaczona kursywą jest w oryginale w formie wykresów ;)
Career of students during their 'learning time' (czy nie lepiej 'studies'?)

The tough situation 'on' (kalka z polskiego 'na', tutaj IN) 'a' (zly przedimek, bo bardzo dobrze wiesz o co chodzi, to 'the') job market is a widely discussed topic in the contemporary world. There are 'lots of' (za niski termin jak na report, inne slowo, 'many', 'numerous' - cos w tym rodzaju) reports concerning students taking up a job before graduating from their 'academies' (a dlaczego nie Universities?).
At the request of the Career Office of the Jagiellonian University I have conducted a survey among 43 students 'of' IN the third and fourth years of their 'faculties' (wystarczy 'studies') and on 'the' THIS basis 'of it' (nie rozumiem co to jest) I have made a report concerning (tutaj musisz dodac 'reasons for') students applying for a job. It intends to show the main motivations of such decisions, salaries and appropriateness of a current career to the 'made' (calkowicie zle slowo, lepiej 'chosen') courses as well.

...Jak robisz taka tabelke, to daj to w kolejnosci od najwiekszego do najmniejszego, a nie tak byle jak,
Livelihood- 16%
Pocket money- 19,6%
Gaining an experience- 43,6%
Courses- 1,1% (nie rozumiem co to jest, czy to sa 'Chosen courses?')
saving- 6,9% (ale czego i po co?)
holidays- 11,2%
others- 1,6%
'According to the results of my survey' (mozna inaczej...The results of the survey indicate that) students are mainly supported by their parents, whereas money earned by them 'are' IS (money is...) intended to be spent on their current needs such as cosmetics, clothes, entertainment 'etc' (jak mozesz wydawac pieniadze na etc? Co to jest, musisz napisac, mozna 'and other smaller/sundry expenditure'). 'The' (zly przedimek, tutaj 'A') significant percent of the polled 'is a sign' (mozna illustrate/indicate) that students compete with each other 'on' IN (students compete IN...) the market field in order to gain the essential experience 'bearing interest' (tego calkowicie nie rozumiem) in the future. It is possible that parents are not willing or are not able to provide them anything more than the basic goods: flats and rents, and hence the relatively high percent of people working in order to 'subsist' (to slowo mnie sie nie podoba, poszukaj inne). The fact is, however, that students do not work only for a profit in the form of money, but also to obtain references that give them the advantage when applying for a position which would be better-paid or compatible 'with a profession' (ale taki student jeszcze nie ma 'profession', mozna to ujac inaczej). They are fully aware of a competition on the labour market and, 'if' (to jest zle slowo, tutaj 'whether') they want TO or not, they take part in this ‘race’ before ending their education. It is very 'common' (napisz 'usual') for them to 'take the second faculty' (nie, to jest za komplikated, wystarczy 'study a second major), although they realise that it reduces their leisure time to the minimum.

1 (lack of compatibility)- 43,9%
2- 19,6% (tego nie rozumiem, co to pokazuje)
3- 15%
4- 15,9%
5 (compatibility)- 5,6%

Curiously, working during 'the education' (nie, to jest zle, tutaj 'studies'), students do not use 'the abilities' (tego nie rozumiem) gained during (mozna dodac 'formal') classes. The reason for it is not surprising when looking at the current economic situation—43% of the 'surveyors' (nie, to slowo to znaczy cos innego, (sprawdz w slowniku) tutaj 'surveyed') are not employed in their (tutaj mozna dodac 'chosen') field. Employers 'put' (zle slowo, mozna 'stipulate' - uzywaj slowa na wyzszym szczeblu) strong requirements when choosing an appropriate 'worker' (nie, daj inne slowo, np. candidate) and to their minds people who have not graduated from 'the' (niepotr) universities have neither sufficient skills and knowledge nor enough time as they have to participate in lectures and lessons. It was found that students suffer a defeat when competing with a 'bit older' (co to znaczy, tak dokladnie, mozna 'older') and more experienced workers. Almost 'the' (niepotr) half of the managers expect from the candidates to have 'a' (niepotr) specialised knowledge and so called ‘soft skills’-- capacity for working in a group, resourcefulness, engagement, activity, being stress-resistant and showing initiative. So there is nothing more for them TO DO, but to earn their living in 'the' (calkowicie zle slowo, tutaj SOME) other way—in restaurants, cinemas, bars 'etc' (Gdzie jest to miejsce, to 'etc' - nie wiem) .

According to the 'estimates' (mozna 'calculations'), the average salary of students amounts to 1100 zloty. The majority of them 'earns' (nie, tutaj EARN, 'earns-to 3os.l.poj) less than 2000 zloty. What is really terrifying IS THAT 57% of young workers do not obtain more than 1000 zloty. As might have been expected, the largest amount of money is earned by the ones who take up 'the' (tutaj ja bym dala 'a') job that is compatible with the 'faculty' (nie rozumiem dlaczego uzywasz to slowo, mozna 'speciality') at the university. Apart from this, 'the common' (nie, to nie znaczy to samo, tutaj 'a well-) known truth is that the most viable professions are the technical or economic ones rather than humanistic ones. 'And' (nie zaczynaj zdan z 'and' to nie jest funkcja tego slowa w zdaniu) there is no point in showing 'the' (niepotr) astonishment hearing that students of IT have the 'biggest' (staraj sie nigdy nie uzywac tego slowa, to nie jest slowo na formalne reporty - tutaj HIGHEST) expectations from the future jobS. On the contrary, students of 'the' (niepotr) journalism and 'the' (niepotr) pedagogy are fully satisfied with the salary which, 'on' IN the words of one of the 'pulled' (zle slowo, moze 'polled' albo 'examined', albo 'sampled'), would on no condition attract 'e.g.' (w calosci, for example) someone studying medicine.

Undoubtedly their main aim is to provide themselves WITH a satisfying and well prosperous job in the future. One of the ways to accomplish 'it' (zle slowo, tutaj THIS) is to gain first HAND experiences when studying. It gives them an advantage in comparison with the ones who do not manage to reconcile a 'faculty' (speciality) with a job and therefore do not come up to the expectations of employers. One the other hand, an effort of young people turns out very often to be fruitless -- they do not acquire practical skills, do not have a possibility to devote themselves to the studies and, finally, their pay doES not allow them to 'subsist' (daj inne slowo) in the contemporary society. (daj tutaj However, it) happens that someone wins and his career proceeds successfully. Nevertheless, students nowadays are in an extremely difficult situation as managers require from students, who have never worked before, to be experienced in their field and tend 'to not' NOT TO engage the ones with an empty CV.
