The Polish Lake District is called Masuria and is situated in the Northeastern Poland.
The Masurian Lake District is a place where many famous people lived.
For example one of them was Leszek Błażyński. He was born in Ełk. He was a boxer from Poland, who twice won the bronze medal in the men's flyweight division at the Summer Olimpics.
The Masurian Lake District are known in Polish as “Kraina Tysiąca Jezior" which means in English “lend of a thousand lakes", but this sentence is not actual, because there are about four thousand lakes.
The largest lakes are called Śniardwy and Mamry. There are located the depreest is called Hańcza in the Suwałki Lake District, and the longest lake is called Jeziorak in the Iława Lake District.
The scenery in Masuria is very special that is why this place is so popular.
One of the most popular attraction is waterway excusion along the Great Masurian Lakes covers a distance of 88 km.
There are many beautiful places where people can enjoy their free time.
Masuria and the Suwałki region are a paradise for yachting, canoeists, hikers and walkers.
The Pisz Forest and the Augustów Forest are ideal for hiking, biking and horse-riding.
This is the best place for people who love fauna and flora.
People come there not only for all kind of sports what they can do there, but also for beautiful views, clean, fresh air, and water.
There are also many historical places, for example Ghotic castles and churches built by the Teutronic Knights who once governed this land.
You can see there the Elbląg canal, one of the most remarkable engineering achievements in Poland, built between 1848 and 1876, is the only waterway of its kind in Europe, allowing you to travel by boat on land.
The Masuria Lake District have so many beautiful and unusual places and that is why it is good center for spend holidays.
