How important is appearance? Do people judge by appearance?

I think all people judge each other by appearance but that's not enough if you want to get to know somebody better. Character is more important than appearance. But in my opinion first impression is important too. When we see someone for the first time we can sometimes make out what kind of music they listen to or what do they do. Appearance is important for people who are a director of some company or work in TV. They must be particular about their appearance and for example wear elegant clothes, also good looking people have an easier life because they can get better job and as a result earn more.
