Mamma Mia! is a 2008 musical comedy film directed by Phyllida Lloyd. It is a faithfully adapted from Broadway musical of the same name. This film is based on the songs of successful pop group ABBA.
The main characters are single mother Donna Sheridan (Meryl Streep), Sam Carmichael (Pierce Brosnan), Bill Andersson (Stellan Skarsgård), Harry Bright (Colin Firth) play the three possible fathers to Donna's daughter, Sophie (Amanda Seyfried).
The action takes place on a Greek island called Kalokairi. The movie focuses on history of 20-year-old Sophie. Girl wants to get married soon and her dream is an appearing her unknown father on a wedding. She founds names of her mother’s old boyfriends who can ban her possible fathers and sends for them invitation for the wedding. She hopes that they will arrive.
In my opinion ABBA’s songs are perfectly matched to the plot. The film is genius, because of the singing actors, who are not singers in normal life. They really do the best they can.
I think it is an occasionally amusing and emotionally powerful movie. I recommend watching it.
