Witam mam problem ze zdaniem:

The survey shows that people are NO happier then they were in the 1950s.

czemu w zdaniu użyto NO a nie NOT. Czy można użyć NOT zachowując znaczenie i poprawność gramatyczną.

Tak bym to rozumial:

The survey shows that people are NO happier then they were in the 1950s. ( they are less happier then they were in the 1950s)
The survey shows that people are NOT happier then they were in the 1950s ( they are just not happier then they were, not necessarily less though)

..are NOT ... to jest negacja czasownika
..are NO … negacja innego elementu ( ‘no’ is a determiner here)

znaczenie moze sie zmieniac

He’s not a teacher ( on nie jest nauczycielem, to nie jest jego zawod)
He’s no teacher ( w domysle …żaden z niego nauczyciel, nie nadaje się do tego)

mozna użyć NOT
are not happier - nie są szczęśliwsi
are no happier - ma znaczenie: ani trochę nie są szczęśliwsi
