Should like sb to do sth

When listening to some podcast recently, I encountered into the structure. I don't remember the whole sentence the phrase was used in, but if my memory serves me well, the sentence went like this:

I should like you to introduce Mr X.... It was at the very beginning of the podcast.

I presume it is a formal and traditional equivalent of "would like", and is used to urge a polite request or statement.

Terri@ I suppose it's typical of the British, using that structure, but I doubt it's common. Guys, what do you reckon ?

Cheers to all.
Gdybym pytala, zeby ktos 'introduced' kogos - to jest mozliwe.
