Register is different for the words. help (neutral) --> aid (rather formal) --> assistance (formal)

Suppose your tutor helped you with your homework.

My tutor helped me (to) do my assignment. I managed to do the assignment with the help of my tutor. He helped you in doing your assignment.
My tutor assisted me in doing my assignment.
My tutor aided me in doing my assignment. (However, I think the sentence can sound odd to some.)

PS pamiętaj o tym:
If you want another drink, just help yourself (give yourself some drink).
