In 2001, Fazil Zakir was arrested and tortured in Kabul,
Afghanistan. His uncle was a member of an illegal
party and Fazil’s captors used the situation to blackmail
him for money. (1) . Fazil had borrowed money
from friends and relatives and in Pakistan he made

to Britain. (3) .
