Petty With a Prior

Witam

Tak jak w temacie co oznacza zdanie "Petty With a Prior"? Oglądam serial "Better call Saul", ale to zdanie sprawia mi kłopot, bo nie mogę znaleźć w internecie sensownego wytłumaczenia...

Pozdrawiam
Udało mi się znaleźć wytłumaczenie
" The prosecutor consistently responded with, “Petty with a prior” as his standing offer. I figured that referred to a persistent offender scheme and looked it up after the show. While the show takes place in New Mexico, “Petty with a prior” seems to be the colloquial term for “Petty theft with a prior,” which is a California law that allows for subesquent minor theft convictions to be punished more seriously than their typical authorized sentences"

Zrozumiałem to tak, iż jeśli młodociany znowu popełni jakieś przestępstwo/kradzież to będzie bardziej "uciskany" przez sąd, niż powinien?
Nie jestem pewna, to mozesz sprawedzic, czy w Californi dalej nie oboowiazuje '3 strikes and you're out'.
Petty - tutaj moze odnosic sie do wartosci sumy ktora ten 'thief' ukradl.

Właśnie "Petty" mnie zastanawiało, akurat w tym serialu dzieciak ukradł pół pizzy bo był głodny ;)

Normally yes, he should be, but again, not necessarily.

CA Penal Code 666, it can be more serious than just petty theft charge, which is a misdemeanor. With a prior, the punk might be looking at 3 years in state prison instead of just walking with a $1,000 fine, assuming of course a DA brings it as a felony now.

But if he's a trooooubled and misunderstooood 350-pound black teen from Baltimore, who'd go at the arraignment something like, "Your Honor, I was on a diet and I snapped, I had to do that. I was so hungry I could bite the ass of a low-flying duck", he'll most likely get off with no slap on the wrist whatsoever.

Way to go, Stephanie, way to go! Maybe Loretta Lynch will allow you to grab some piece of her pie in DOJ. Keep it up, pigs, till it all burns to a crisp!

Nauczy się dopiero jak poczuje potrzebę. Ja poczułem dwa lata temu, kiedy nie mogłem się dogadać z obcokrajowcem i zrobiło mi się cholernie wstyd, że nie znam języka angielskiego...
