chciałam zapytać, jaka jest funkcja i co oznacza słowo ONE w poniższym zdaniu:
...If local folklore is to be believed, he does this without fail at midnight on 6 September every year, this being the date of the untimely death of ONE George Carpenter, the gardener of the hall, who met his doom in the library, burned by his own lantern.
I podobne pytanie co do słówka DID w drugim zdaniu. (Czy to jest emphasis structure?)
...But it was all great fun, and the ghostly maze on the final day was terrific, even if I never DID get to see George Carpenter.
