poprawność dwóch wersji

Dzień dobry, czy w zdaniu "Your scales are not accurate" zamiast are może być is? PS. Z ciekawości uruchomiłem ćwiczenia z ang i wersji z is komputer mi nie zaliczył, gdyż uważa że powinno być tylko are, a to dla mnie dziwne, bo wiem, że scales może być też w liczbie pojedynczej, czy się mylę?

chyba po amerykańsku, tzn. w słownikach znalazłem, że można powiedzieć 'scale'. Ale w takim przypadku scales=wagi, więc zdanie zabrzmi dziwnie.

W USA dwóch wersji się używa w liczbie pojedynczej "scales" oraz "scale". W UK chyba głównie scales. Hmm, czy ja wiem, czy dziwnie zabrzmi w liczbie mnogiej. Mogę sobie wyobrazić, że ktoś ma wiele wag w sklepie, a rozmówca stwierdza, że jego wagi są niedokładne.

Gdy mamy jedna sztuke wagi, ktora chcemy uzyc to mowimy 'scales' nawet jak to jest jedna sztuka. Your scales ARE not accurate a nie *Your scales is not accurate.
Tak samo ze slowem 'trousers' chociaz to jest jedna sztuka, to mowimy 'trousers'. Your trousers are very tight, a nie *your trousers is very tight.

Na forach ang wyczytałem, że scales tylko w formie plural odnosi się do starego typu wagi i stąd bierze się zamieszanie.

Z załączonego linku wynika, że zdania są podzielone, a jak Ty uważasz? Wiem, że w wersji Amerykańskiej obie wersje istnieją, a w Brytyjskiej tylko scales w pluralu jest poprawne?

To co ja uwazam, to jest tutaj najmniej wazne :). AmE jest bardziej na luzie i jesli uzywamy jezyka do komunikacji to mozna pozwolic sobie na pewna swobode. Jesli uczymy sie na okreslone testy, to niestety trzeba trzymac sie zasad wyznaczonych przez test.
